Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

Professional indemnity insurance is not required as my services are a guide only.  I do not provide the documentation and project management / building surveying services such as architects do.  My services do not include financial advice.  I do not build homes.  However, I can point you in the right direction of very reputable companies who do all of this for you.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

My father was a stone mason, I worked for him for some time as a young man, and was exposed to architects and landscape architects, this gave me the drive to decide to go to university and study design. I completed my studies and worked for a number of builders and architects.  I have worked for very high end builders, volume builders, developers and landscape architects.   I have been blessed to work with so many fantastic people and in that time I have designed homes and helped hundreds of clients through the complex process of building a home.  This is what I love, and I decided to strike out on my own to help more people, while still working with all of the awesome people at all of the other builders that I had previously  built relationships with.  So here I am, ready to help you build the home of your dreams and enjoy your life with your family and friends.

What do you like most about your job?

All of my clients are brilliant in their chosen field of profession. However, they do not have the experience and talent that I have to design and have their dream home built by a reputable building company.  I absolutely love giving my clients the advice that they cannot get from anyone else in this industry.  I love to design homes that meet all of the needs of the clients, at their budget, without any nasty surprises and to the time frame that they expect.  This is what I was born to do, and I am so lucky to be able to make a living doing what I love.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

Clients should ask:  What the qualifications of my chosen building designer or sales consultant. How much will it cost to get my dream home? Am I getting the best price for my home? Am I getting the best service? Do I trust my building designer or sales consultant? Is this the best builder for my home? How long will it take? Can they guide me through the entire process? Will my dream home be approved by council?

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

Clients sometimes ask me if I receive commissions from builders when they build homes.  I explain that I have not set up my business this way as it allows me to remain impartial and allows me to be full accountable to my clients best interests only. I also explain that all of the services I provide are very valued by all of the builders and they will usually provide a credit to their customers for the amount that they have spent on my services (due to the fact that they then do not have to do this).

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

I have 20 years experience in residential design and hundreds of very happy clients. Clients have chosen me as I have demonstrated that I have always had their best interests at heart.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

Accepted Answer

I am completely honest and have your best interests at heart. I won't tell you want to hear, simply because it is in my best interests. I will always tell you about any potential issues so that you can make informed decisions about your dream new home. I will do everything in my power to get you into your dream home, when you want, for the price you want to pay.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

In the first meeting I will ask many questions so that I can provide a detailed brief for myself of your requirements.  There is too much information to list here but includes:  Your living requirements (number and size of rooms) Where your land is located (or where you want to live) What style of home you like What you budget is When you want to move into your new dream home  Once this is completed and we know each other fairly well - I will provide a fixed price quote for each stage.  You can then choose to proceed with any or all (or even none) of the services outlined.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

If you speak to me before buying a block of land I can potentially save you tens of thousands of dollars.  Please speak to me before you sign up with a builder, as I can guide you as to what the strengths and weakness of each builder are.  Ideally, talking to me prior to talking to sales consultants is a good idea too.  Remember, that the first meeting is always free and you are under no obligation to use my services.  I have saved hundreds of thousands for many clients who did not even need to proceed with my services after the first meeting.  All I asked of them was to recommend me to their friends and family if they were happy with my services.

Are there any special offers you would like to offer to Oneflare customers?

I do not have special offers as my prices are already as competitive as they can be. I will advise you on whether builders special offers and promotions are genuine or not (some are honest savings and others are more "smoke and mirrors."

What makes your pricing competitive?

Accepted Answer

My pricing is competitive because I am a sole operator and I run my business from a home office. I do not have the overheads associated with a large business so I can pass the savings onto you. I have taken the knowledge and experience of working for many of the large builders in Adelaide and can offer this to you without the associated costs. Although I have studied and worked as an architect, I choose not to be a part of this very expensive professional association, so that everyone can access a similar service at a much cheaper cost.

How do you normally charge for your service?

The first meeting is always free.  At this meeting I will explain the fee structure and if you are happy with it then we will proceed. Fees are broken up into stages so that you only pay for the service that you use. Once you are comfortable with the service and information I have given you, there is no obligation to continue, however, the service is there if you don't have time to sort it all out, and I will be happy to do this for you.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

I have always specialised in residential design. In particular I have always worked on projects that are seen as too difficult by other building designers and sales consultants.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

I have three degrees from the University of Adelaide in Design Studies, Architecture and Landscape Architecture and I am currently studying a Masters of Business Administration. I have 20 years experience in the building industry, both on site and in design. I have worked in architecture firms, landscape studios, consulting engineers and many of the largest builders in South Australia as a designer, planning coordinator, drafting manager and sales consultant. I now freelance all of these skills directly to my clients.
