How did you decide to get into your line of work?

When I was 15, I began training to become a Stonemason. I worked on all aspects of natural stone, including rock walls, concrete footings & small slabs, benchtops, statue carvings etc. When I was 18 my family moved to QLD, where I continued my trade. I wanted to gather more concreting experience, so I started working with my father-in-law and 2 executive concreting companies. I learnt all the ins and outs of concreting and steel fixing

Definitely, all tradesman have that one job that they will always remember as being, "The Perfect Job". I have a few great outcomes that have made me very proud of myself, but I'm always striving to better each job

As many questions as it takes for the client to feel not only comfortable with the tradesman, but for them to know that they are going to get exactly what they want.   There are never too many questions

The most commonly asked question i get is; What would you do?   As much as i like to give people suggestions, I always remind them that its their house and each person has their own taste.

I hate it when people don't turn up when they say they are going to. But whats worse is when they don't even contact you if they are late or not coming. I endeavour to get to every place on time, and only book in what i know i can get to. As we all know, things in life happen but if something comes up, you will always get a call or txt

I am not a huge business so the client always speaks with the business owner I give the client easy to understand timeframes and the order in which and how the job will be done This enables the client to be in control until the end

We need to know; What the job involves  Where the job is What the access to the job is like Are there any permits that need to be applied for Is there any services below the ground in the affected area to be aware of.  There is always something to think about

Take the time to really plan EXACTLY what you want Ask each tradesman questions as to what is being done, in what order Do your research to find what will give you the best bang for your buck

What makes your pricing competitive?

We endeavour not to make a big margin on each job, however we like to do more volumes of work in order to make our money. Having this said, we buy a lot of concrete and a lot of reinforcing materials which has given us one of the cheapest prices on the gold coast, and the best thing is, I'm not afraid to pass these savings onto you.

How do you normally charge for your service?

Depending on the area a sqm rate is the easiest option to quote a price for the client. However, instead of doing this we have found that by tailoring each different job with its own bottom dollar price, our clients have been able to save hundreds or even thousands, while at the same time we still make enough money to fight another day

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

Im a bit of a perfectionist so making sure the overall finish of the concrete is second to none Concrete is my specialty and I've put a lot of time into all aspects of it. Colour concrete, Exposed, Grey Broom finish, etc
