Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

All insurances are up to date. Photos are always taken before and after work has been done.  Work is guaranteed for 12 months. Materials purchased by the client and delivered to the site are covered by the supplier of the products

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

Ive always had a very keen interest in this area of work since leaving school. I have been very fortunate to work in many various fields of the civil works. This has given me the opportunity to be employed in laboring duties then be trained to operate miscellaneous machines. This has also given me the carrier path into management area for civil works as well. The opportunity came up to start my own business which has been in operation for 11yrs.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

I was asked to remove some rubbish from a property in Griffith Canberra which then turned into a major project. it was great to have the opportunity to work with the home owner and discuss the ways that he could save money and get rid of rubbish. the first step was to Sift through all the rubbish on site then into their own piles then transport to the recycle center. By doing this process saved the owner around $10,000 as it would have been processed as mixed demolition which is very costly. Having the right tools for the job always helps in excavation work.  The end result was great because every time i drive by this house I can see that I made a great contribution to the finished work.

What do you like most about your job?

Using my  earth moving equipment on someones property, then sculpting and transforming the yard into the working stage for other trades to perform their work.  It is satisfying to see a finished product and have a happy customer.  Have photos taken from the start to finish to see the work I have achieved.

The customer should provide details of what work they want done  The years of experience the professional has and do they have any photos of work they have done The cost prior to commencing works

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

How long will it take how much soil or rubbish will be removed. Depending the depth of spoil the owner is asking to have removed is normal less then what they have forecast for the project.

My 32 yrs of Civil project experience in many different roles.  Having the ability to coordinate with various trades personnel on the job. I communicate well with people and I am open and honest about undertaking the work.  If I am unable to do the job I will recommend someone I trust to do the work.  I run my own business in Canberra and surrounding regions.  I have gained good references for completing large projects around NSW for major companies.

With 32 years of  experience in civil earth works and Landscape projects, I have gained a vast network of suppliers and stakeholders to call on in the business as required.

Is there access to the front or rear yard for the machine Cost of materials/will the customer be providing the materials Does the customer have a time line for the project Are there cost saving measures, such as reusing the spoil onsite or adding other organic material to improve it

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

One - Have a plan set out or landscape drawings done and available. Two - Have Dial before U Dig on site and get Utilities suppliers mark their assets at the Property with paint. Three - Know the area you are going to excavate so you don't require rework, this becomes very costly.

My prices don't vary much and have been consistent for the last 4 years to be competitive with larger companies.  Having myself and another professional worker, I guarantee my work and have been credited by large companies for getting the job done with a good price.

How do you normally charge for your service?

Accepted Answer

The hire of operator plus machine is a minimum of 4 hours.  Depending on the location of the work, I charge a float-age from when the plant leaves its place of storage and return. No float-age will be charged if the work goes over one day.   If two people are required for more than one item of Plant machinery I charge for both operators and machine.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

Excavation and restoration on various types of work.  Repairs to damaged sewage pipes, site cuts, footings, rock removal, site clearing, removal of rubbish vegetation, trees and shrubs.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

Accepted Answer

I have accreditation for work place training and accessing.  A CIT Operative drainer, Asbestos Awareness Training, Industry White and an ACT IR Accreditation to work on Government projects.  I have also gained a license to Perform High Risk Work and Work, Health and Safety Certificate to operate miscellaneous plant machinery.
