How did you decide to get into your line of work?

Graphic design found me. From an early age, I enjoyed art and design and showed a creative ability. After trying other creative disciplines (I thought I wanted to be an animator and film maker) I settled on graphic design and haven't looked back.

"How much do you charge?" There is no manual for graphic design, no text book full of answers. Each design problem requires its own unique solution which requires time and skill to complete. By giving clear and detailed quotes, I hope to remove any unwanted surprises at the completion of the project.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

Typically, I ask a series of questions to get an outline of your requirements. 1. Job description 2. Who is the target market? 3. Special requirements – any existing fonts, colours to be used? 4. Where will it appear – signage, web site? 5. Any previous examples? 6. What have competitors done, name them? 7. Can you included any examples of what you like? 8. What's the time scale and budget? This helps provide a clear summary of what I can achieve within that time frame budget.

1, Producing a detailed brief is essential. I can work with you the customer in producing a full detailed brief, so we are both clear on what is required before the design process begins, saving time and money. 2, Find the right graphic designer for you. Look at there past examples of work, can they adapt styles to fit the design requirement or does there work all look the same? 3, Can the designer work across numerous disciplines? I can personally handle the job from design concept stage to final artwork ready to be printed, so removing any unnecessary external costs.

If required, I can use my own network of printers and can pass on discounted printing rates to my customers.

I charge an hourly rate but I can give an estimate for the final cost. A detailed brief would be required prior to this.

Basically anything printed used for promotion, including advertising, packaging, point of sale, signage, brochures and identity. More recently, building websites too.

I'm highly qualified with a BA(Hons) Degree in Graphic Design from Bath University, England.   I use the latest Adobe software including Photoshop, In-design, Illustrator and Muse in creating my designs.   I have over fifteen years industry experience. I have previously worked at some of the best of Australia’s and UK’s design and advertising agencies.   I have skills in art direction, design, artworking and image retouching.
